Of all the groups negatively impacted by the pandemic, young people are amongst those hardest hit. Lockdown isolation has damaged their education, their family and personal relationships, and their mental health. The problems are often referred to in the mainstream media, but very rarely are the actual voices of the young people themselves heard. Now they will be.
The team of citizen journalists at Sussex Bylines are proud to announce the launch of Our Future, Our Voices. We pledge to give young people a platform where they can speak of their own experiences first-hand. A space where they can explore their creativity – their skills in photography, poetry, art, podcasts and articles that look at life through their unique and special lens.
To mark the launch of Our Future, Our Voices, we are publishing articles by young writers throughout the week. Subjects range from life at university during lockdown to the Swiss vote to ban the burqa, from the impact of social media on mental health to the environmental impact of incinerating our rubbish.
If you are aged between 15 and 25 and would like to explore the idea of writing for Sussex Bylines, or if you have artwork or photography that you are keen to see published, or if you are interested in video making or podcasts, then get in touch with us. You don’t have to have a finished product – just some ideas, lots of enthusiasm and commitment. We will help you to develop your ideas.
